EXOPLANET Sim-wide 3D interactive art installation by Gem PREIZ
ABOUT THE EXOPLANET PROJECT
EXOPLANET is a project in two parts. The first one, « One Step Further » opens on 22.02.2022. The second part will open later this year, and will lead us further into space. Both contain a fractal exhibition displayed in a science-fiction environment.
« One Step Further » invites visitors to participate in the promising next phase of space exploration, as crew members of a space base -- installed on the surface of an extraterrestrial moon or planet -- prepare to move further out towards life-hosting exoplanets.
The Exoplanet installation does not intend to look realistic and even consistent from a scientific point of view. Rather, it aims to create an immersive 3D environment which evokes space exploration. It uses deliberately, as all my builds, simple prims with their SL attributes (bumpiness, shininess, alpha etc …) and does not rely on meshes or textures to reproduce reality -- except for crew avatars.
The purpose of the combined mixture of fractals and 3D interactive build, is to make them resonate : the space base offers an immersive 3D experience, even if it is in a simplistic environment, while the fractal images show a complexity impossible to reproduce in 3D.

WHAT TO SEE ?
- A Teleport HUD is also given upon arrival. Add it and select one from the 15 pre-registered locations to jump to.
- Fractals : 18 fractals,
* displayed on a 80 m x 40 m cinema screen which changes every 90 seconds. The screen enables you to watch the fractals from almost any place under the dome.
* Please note : when you are done with the screen, you can de-render it "temporarily" to enjoy the complete view of the dome (the back of the screen is already transparent).
* displayed as a classical exhibition on the different floors in the White Tower. You can reach them by using the tp-buttons in the hall or by using the Teleport HUD.
- Space base locations :
* Tower : fractal exhibition floors, middle and top observation decks (access through phantom doors), headquarters meeting room
* Data center, Dwellings, Shuttles Hangar, Arcades with industrial equipment and greenhouses and Control towers can be accessed via automatic doors and teleports.
* Vehicles : there are 3 flying shuttles in the hangar, 2 x 2 trucks parked besides the buildings, and speeders in the arcades parking. Please use them freely
* cross one of the two "exit" doors to travel outside the dome. Equipments such as solarcells and radiotelescopes are mainly off-sim.
* Light-dots pathways and signs guide visitors towards the different locations
* 43 crew members populate the base. please do not disturb them as they are very much focused on their job.
