Executive Order 14181 delivers: more water, smarter operations for California

One year ago, President Donald J. Trump signed Executive Order 14181 to set a clear direction for improving California’s water system, focusing on results within existing authorities. Since January 2025, the Bureau of Reclamation has strengthened coordination, improved operational flexibility, streamlined decision-making, and advanced long-term planning to maximize water availability and system reliability. These efforts delivered more than 130,000 acre-feet of additional water to the Central Valley Project in 2025, supporting farms, communities, and local economies, and captured an additional 39,000 acre-feet during recent storm first-flush events that historically could not be stored. One year in, Executive Order 14181 is delivering measurable progress, with Reclamation building on these gains to strengthen California’s water system for the future.
