Former political prisoner Eric King was released from prison on December 12, 2023, after spending nearly 10 years behind bars. As he walked off the Florence Federal Correctional Complex property toward a small crowd of friends and supporters, his wife and child ran up to him, embracing him tightly.

King remained in Federal Bureau of Prisons' custody while at a halfway house until January 16, 2024. When he arrived at the halfway house on his prison release day, an ankle monitor was attached to him, and it remained on his leg until February 23, 2024.
