Earlier this month Ray Comfort released his latest "movie" to great fanfare about how it would shake the foundations of faith by demonstrating that the biological theory of evolution was in fact completely unfounded.
There are adverts all over facebook and twitter as well as youtube pointing you to Ray's website where you can download a copy for the princely sum of $20, which Ray explains is to help cover the cost of production before he eventually uploads the whole movie to Youtube on August 7th so that you can watch it for free.
Having seen the trailer for the "movie" I couldn't wait to sit down and watch it, just so that I could see if it was as bad as I was expecting it to be...
...and I wasn't disappointed.
Well OK, lets be honest about this, I was. The movie is more like an infomercial given that its only 35 minutes long.
Despite all the hype about Ray interviewing college professors, the bulk of the movie involves him interviewing people who are mostly identified as students, although I'm convinced that there are some random folks pulled off the street in there too. His line of questioning is just dumb and in attempting to shakes the viewers "faith" in evolution Rays asks people to name famous atheists and goes on to debunk an internet meme!
Ray doesn't even attempt to make any sort of coherent argument against the theory of evolution so there isn't really anything to rebut. Essentially all he does is try to pounce on certain words to try and make his case that the theory of evolution is really a belief which is quite absurd.
More notable is that fact that although he must have interviewed hundreds of people to make this, he doesn't even have enough footage to pad the thing out past 35 minutes and the extra time is made up with adverts for the creation museum and for Rays books.
Then again, this video was not made with the intention of changing anyone's mind. It was made so it can be sold by the box load to fundamentalist christians who will then give it away for free to college students who will never watch it, and there's the rub. With this "movie" Ray is brazenly milking his fellow christians because he knows full well that there is not one thing in his movie that is going to change anyone's mind so in effect he's arming his fellow christian evangelists in their fight for Christ with wooden guns and rubber swords.
If you cannot wait until August 7th to watch it for free, you can buy the "movie" as a download for $20 by visiting Rays website here:

To be honest, its worth visiting the site just to read the reviews. It makes you wonder if the people who watched them saw the same "movie" that I saw.
