I wanted to create something with a Van Halen feel, but not use any actual Van Halen riffs or licks (but two-hand tapping is always going to be reminiscent of Eddie!) He was often overlooked as a rhythm player, so that's why there's more rhythm than lead.
Though, as I said, I didn't use any actual VH riffs, I hear things that, to me, remind me of Unchained, Dance the Night Away, and a little run that sounds like something from Drop Dead Legs.
