Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates wrote "Everytime You Go Away," which they first recorded in 1980 but never released as a single. Paul Young's 1985 cover became a massive international hit, reaching Number 1 in the US and Number 4 in the UK. It was featured on his album The Secret of Association and is considered one of his signature songs. The music video, directed by David Mallet, had a narrative about an imprisoned dancer. Young also performed it at Live Aid in 1985. His version featured a distinctive sound with echoed piano, synthesizer, fretless bass, and electric sitar. It won a Brit Award for British Video of the Year in 1986. While Hall & Oates' original version wasn't a single, they did include it on their 1985 live album.
