For Lucian Freud, every work was a piece of his world. For seven decades, he depicted life as he saw it – in all its forms.

From the late 1980s onwards, his whippet Pluto was a faithful companion and muse. Pluto’s Grave is an introspective meditation on life’s circularity. As Freud entered the final decade of his life, he was acutely conscious of time’s passing. Alive with tenderness and loss each leaf, each brushstroke is ultimately a self-portrait. Estimate: £2,000,000-3,000,000. Offered in the 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale on 5 March 2026 at Christie’s in London
