Barn doors are dead. I built a pivot door instead. My daughter needed a new door, but the opening was too large for a regular door — and we didn't want a barn door. So I built a giant 200-pound steel door covered in dragon scales using pivot door hardware. This custom DIY pivot door project started as a simple bedroom door replacement and turned into a full metal fabrication build: welding the steel frame, cutting and shaping hundreds of individual dragon scales, mounting everything on a heavy-duty floor-mounted pivot hinge system, and balancing 200 pounds of steel so it swings with one finger.
