I don’t divide the octave into 12 equal steps in my music. Instead, every chord is retuned in real time into just intonation.
My plugin calculates the tuning of each chord from frequency ratios, using the lowest or most played note. The initial reason I wanted to build this was so you can play just intonation in every key on TET keyboards.
The idea is inspired by how string quartets or barbershop quartets for example naturally adjust their pitch while performing. They continuously retune intervals to create purer chords. My software automates that process for electronic music.
So, that’s why the track in this video contains 17 distinct pitches instead of being limited to the 12 notes of equal temperament.
