This is my entry for the 10th (and final) week of Dominobauer /DBI and Water Cloud Domino’s contest Domino Level Up. The challenge for this week was to make the best setup where every single domino was used at least twice. The dominoes in my entry are kind of divided into three sections, each of which reuses its dominoes in a different way. Here are the different uses for the dominoes in each section:
Section 1
1 - The blocks of dominoes fall over.
2 - The fallen dominoes fall again in a sonimod fashion.
3 - A marble rolls over the domino blocks.
Section 2
1 - The dominoes on the board fall.
2 - The board tips, and all the dominoes slide off.
3 - The dominoes land on a platform, weighing it down and triggering the next thing.
Section 3
1 - The domino line falls.
2 - The dominoes on strings all pull each other off the fireplace.
This setup is very different than something I’d typically make. The limit of having to use every domino at least twice made me think in much different ways than I normally would. I used different objects like blocks for weights and supports. Interestingly, this setup actually took about 50 attempts to get right. The first transition with the rolling block that hit the string was very unreliable. The platform that catches the sliding dominoes was also frustrating; it didn’t fail much, but the tape holding the two planks together would constantly loosen. I had to fix it several times. Overall, even though the setup is so different than my style, I am pretty happy with what I made, since there are several creative uses for the dominoes.
