A child was seriously injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. along Trousdale Drive, which is near the intersection of Albemarle Road and East W.T. Harris Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed.

"It's every parent, every family's worst nightmare," Maj. Dave Johnson said. "These folks are living it."

CMPD said two other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting but didn't disclose their relation to the child or what led to the shooting. Detectives did urge anyone with guns to properly secure them to prevent tragedies like this from happening. #Crime #News
