Miles Upshur is an investigative journalist who arrives at Mount Massive Asylum run by the Murkoff Corp. after receiving word from an insider about horrible mistreatment of the patients. After getting inside, Miles finds the staff slaughtered and the former patients who were experimented on, the variants, on the loose. Trapped inside the Asylum, Miles must escape the deranged inmates who have turned violent as well as the mysterious Walrider that is haunting the corridors of Mount Massive.
Waylon Park is a software tech brought in by Murkoff to work on the top secret project. But after witnessing atrocities committed against the patients he decides to leak information to the press in hopes of bringing attention to the heinous acts. While he manages to send off an email to a journalist, he is caught by the company and forcibly committed to the asylum and the project he wanted to expose. Waylon is at the beginning of the Walrider’s rampage, running from not only the spirit-like monster but inmates who have developed a sick obsession with him as well.

I love this game. The atmosphere is amazing; the sheer dread it creates when you hear Walker’s chains or Tragers shears, claustrophobia when you have to crawl through the sewers or hide in a locker, panic when the characters breathing picks up and you know someone is chasing you. This game is incredible, probably the best horror game I’ve ever played. The story is great as well with a lot of details and world building, and even though the protagonists are voiceless their journal entries allow us glimpses at their characters we can get to know and understand. Certainly not for everyone, it is very graphic with a lot of sexual violence beside the normal ripping heads off violence. So, uh, yeah, not for everyone.
