What is SRB2: Chaotic Edition?
This is a chaos mod. You may have seen the likes of it from Super Mario 64: Chaos Edition, or GTA V Chaos, this mod aims to do similar things. Every 3-10 seconds, you're given a "Chaos Roulette", which will roll a new random effect to apply to you. They can range from wind pushing you around, to your player sprite turning into a giant tree, or you being able to get double the amount of rings as usual; that is to say, it's a toss-up if the effect helps you, or impedes you, or perhaps neither at all!
There is also a second component to this: the Chaos City. A small chunk of a city torn from the ground, it's a safe haven away from the chaos down below... This is a hub level that you can access at any time (use the warp at the start of every level), to customize your chaos experience! At the end of every level, all the rings you currently have in your possession are turned into "Chaos Rings"; the pure essence of chaos found in every ring. Your "Ring Multiplier" determines how much chaos you can extract out of said rings, and it can be used as currency to buy upgrades and various tweaks to the chaos experience! All of this to say: you have some power to tame the chaos... or at least make it more manageable!
There are 68 unique effects that can be applied to the player, with some of them needing to be unlocked (from either the shop, or doing certain tasks in Chaos City!). There are a further 9 Universal Effects which can be all obtained by buying the appropriate item; these are effects that don’t just apply to the player, they change up the world around you!
