SnappyDragon | Ever bought a bra from Sears? You have something in common with Victorian corset wearers! @SnappyDragon | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 7 minutes ago.
Who else has gone bra shopping at the same place as the Victorians bought corsets? 🙋‍♀️ The reality of 19th century lingerie and underwear shopping probably had a lot more in common with modern bra shopping than we realize, and it's one of my favorite parts of fashion history. Victorian fashion may have been completely different, but dress history tells us just how much we had in common. I have strong memories of learning how to measure bra size on many department store trips as a young teenager, figuring out what shapes and styles were the most comfortable bra for me. It only takes looking at a few historical corset ads to realize the Victorian experience was similar! As to whether corsets were torture . . . stay tuned, because I have OPINIONS to voice and corset myths to bust.
