Mitigating and adapting to climate change demanded the widespread adoption of innovative technologies. Development finance played a critical role in supporting the private sector to demonstrate the viability of these technologies and deliver adaptation at scale.
This conference brought researchers and practitioners together to share insights on the challenges and opportunities in climate technology adoption across Africa and Asia.
In the first session, we had opening remarks from Paddy Carter, Head of Development Economics at British International Investment, and Dennis Novy, Chief Economist at FCDO and CEPR.
The panel then focused on how agricultural innovations can help communities adapt to climate change. Experts explored solutions such as water storage, precision agriculture, and new seed varieties, alongside approaches to improve resilience and productivity.
Speakers include:
• Josh Deutschman, University of Chicago – water storage
• Tomoko Harigaya, Chief Economist, Precision Development – precision agriculture
• Jessica Rudder, Oregon State University – new seed varieties
• Usha Zehr, Executive Director, Grow Indigo
• Shailendra Tiwari, Founder and Co-CEO, Fasal
• Alec Martin, Director of Impact, AgDevCo
Organisers: British International Investment (BII) and Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries Initiative (PEDL), the Private Sector Development Research Network (PSDRN) and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR)
