Panel: Bold about the planet: Mobilising capital for climate investment
Climate change is the defining development challenge of our time, with emerging and developing economies among the most vulnerable to its impacts. In 2024, British International Investment committed £708 million ($903 million) to climate finance, 41 per cent of our total commitments, and mobilised an additional $466 million in private capital.
Mobilising private investment is central to BII’s climate strategy. As one of the UK Government’s largest providers of climate finance to developing economies, we are committed to using our capital to de-risk projects, crowd in private finance, and support the green transformation of economies.
This session explored the role of development finance in accelerating green growth and building resilience through investments in renewable energy, clean transport, climate-smart agriculture, and more.
Three partners at the forefront of this transition shared details of how their businesses are scaling climate solutions, the challenges they face, and thoughts of how capital can be mobilised more effectively to support a just and inclusive energy transition.
Speakers:
• Moderator: Amal-Lee Amin, Managing Director and Head of Climate, Diversity and Advisory, British International Investment
• Wymen Chan, Head of Asia, SUSI Partners
• Jay Govender, Chief Commercial and Legal Officer, Etana Energy
• Satish Talmale, CEO, EnerGrid
