In 2010 the UK National Railway Museum gave permission for British Railways 2-10-0 Class 9F number 92214 to masquerade as class mate 92220 'Evening Star', the last steam locomotive built by BR. An event unlikely to happen again. The majority of the video footage was shot at Swithland Sidings, Rothley and Kinchley Lane.
Many thanks to the GCR staff and Timeline Events for organising this photo charter and also for facilitating the excellent conversion of 92214 to 92220 for just a short period (including copper-capped chimney!).
The real 'Evening Star' was last steamed in the late 1980s and is currently a static exhibit at the NRM in York. Currently there is no intention to restore the locomotive to steam.
