Hello everyone. The intention was to make a round of hot drinks for the office team, but we decided it was too hot, so I wondered what the (emptied!) metal tea, coffee and sugar cannisters would sound like. I placed them upside down on my very large timpani and struck them with a variety of mallets. Whilst I doubt they will become part of my regular percussion set-up, it was fun to experiment. I’m curious what every-day objects you might use to create some interesting soundscapes!

Video description: Evelyn is stood beside her 52-inch timpani, having placed five silver metal cannisters – labelled coffee, sugar and tea - lids down, on top. She firstly strikes the flat bottom of each cannister, using two green superball mallets, producing a bell-like tone from each one. She then takes two blue wool-headed mallets and uses both the stick and the head to strike the cannisters, before finally playing the cannisters with her bare hands. She ends by scrunching the cannisters together and when one cannister separates from its lid, she picks up the cannister, makes an amused dramatic gesture, and walks out of shot smiling and laughing.
