This session will explore American evangelicalism and its relationship to the “abortion wars” underway in the country today. Our speakers will examine how these cultural currents are linked not only to Roe, to the Moral Majority and rise of the “Christian Right,” and to moral commitments regarding the sanctity of life, but also to the cultural marginalization that played out during both the Obama and Trump years. They will also address some of the socio-cultural, theological, and racial dimensions of this issue—offering recommendations for a possible path forward.
