I recently binged all of Apothecary Diaries after having to restart it several times because I made the mistake of trying to watch it as a background show first, and not only am I obsessed with how good it is, but I think Maomao solves a stubborn old character trope - The Mary Sue - and brings into question whether that trope was even a problem in the first place, or if it was just sexism again.
