Researchers at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute worked with TxDOT to evaluate various types of concrete coatings and sealers applied to bridge substructures. Used to keep water out of pavement cracks, these coatings help extend and preserve the life of bridges. Both new and existing concrete were evaluated during this process.
Recommendations on which sealer or coating should be used based on location and climate, or if a sealer needs to be applied, is one of the goals associated with this project.
