Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.

Portuguese is a Western Romance language from the Iberian Peninsula and is the official language of several countries, including Brazil, Portugal, Angola, and Mozambique. It also holds co-official status in places like East Timor and Macau. Portuguese-speaking nations are called Lusophone. The language spread globally due to colonial expansion and originated from Vulgar Latin dialects in medieval Galicia and Portugal, retaining some Celtic phonology. With about 300 million speakers, Portuguese is the fifth most spoken native language and the second most spoken Romance language, after Spanish.

East Timorese Portuguese is spoken in Timor-Leste, one of the country's two official languages alongside Tetum. The curriculum is based on European Portuguese, with some local adaptations in pronunciation. Timor-Leste is the only sovereign nation in Asia with Portuguese as an official language, apart from Macau, a Chinese autonomous region. Portuguese remains a legacy of colonial rule from the 16th to 18th centuries, though Tetum was the primary lingua franca. Tetun-Prasa, the version spoken in Dili, was significantly influenced by the Portuguese. There is a growing interest in learning Portuguese at all educational levels in the country.

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
