Through the EURA joint venture, Safran Helicopter Engines and MTU Aero Engines are studying the joint development of the ENGHE (European Next Generation Helicopter Engine), a new 100% European engine for the next generation of military helicopters, scheduled to enter service by 2040.
This engine will feature breakthrough technologies that will significantly increase efficiency while reducing operating and maintenance costs. It will be particularly well suited to the ENGRT (European Next Generation Rotorcraft Technologies) and NGRC (Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability) projects. Outstanding engine characteristics will provide future helicopters with enhanced capabilities such as longer range, higher speed, better improved maneuverability and higher availability. In addition to these improvements, this engine will also reduce CO2 emissions and improve sustainability.
