So Euphoria is heavily using the R-word.
Is there enough social commentary on the use of this term, written into the show, to warrant the word’s use?
I don’t know.
But when these terms are used, it is the responsibility of the writers to make sure they aren’t normalizing harmful slurs.
Producing media comes with a responsibility not to cause harm…and if you choose to depict harmful things, it needs to be clear that those things are being depicted AS HARMFUL, not as endorsements.
And before anyone accuses this as censorship…commenting on media literacy isn’t censorship. Euphoria isn’t being censored. And approaching media with ethics is not either.
