Terence, Eunuchus 739-816. Version I: in Latin, with ancient masks and costumes. Filmed in Gerrard Hall, on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The courtesan Thais returns from a party where she has quarreled with the soldier Thraso. She runs into Chremes, Pamphila's brother, in front of her house. Thais tells him that Pamphila is now in her house but Thraso is coming to take her back. They go inside and lock the door. Right on cue, Thraso arrives with his hanger-on Gnatho and an army of kitchen servants to reclaim Pamphila. Thais and Chremes appear in a second-story window and repulse the soldier's assault. Thraso and his forces retreat in humiliation.
This version is adapted as a modern sitcom, "Family Thais," in which Thais works as an accountant in an escort service, and her roommate Pamphila is mistakenly profiled as an illegal alien.
