The legendary game designer Eugene Jarvis in Finland 12.2.2015.
- Your view of the future of gaming?
Wwhat makes gaming exciting, it's evolving not only in itself but also in technology. 2D or 3D or color or 3D or virtual reality systems. Gaming is evolving creatively in the art form, the game design, the, the characters, the story, just like movies and cinema and television. So it kind of combines both the technology and the and the art. And, so it's hard to tell where where that's going, you know.
But I think virtual reality will create a new supernova of games.

Eugene and the Housemarque guys got together and chatted a bit about the state of gaming, specifically about arcades and old school gaming in general.
Along with his friendly visit to Finland, Eugene announced that he is working on a brand new game with the Housemarque team.
This is Eugene’s first co-operation with an outside game developer since working with Midway Games (Cruis’n USA, 1994). A quote from the man himself:
“When I saw RESOGUN I couldn’t believe how these Housemarque guys took Defender to a new level. I wondered… what would happen if we teamed up? Mash up old school arcade with mad voxel tech and crazed nouveau Helsinki gamers… All I know now is that it is going to be explosive”.
Arcade games have been very close to Jarvis since he started creating them in 1982 with Robotron. Raw Thrills, his company, is on the forefront of contemporary arcade culture with sizeable gaming hits such as the Big Buck Hunter franchise.
This new venture is in essence Housemarque making a game with one of their all-time heroes.

![Clean Sweep - Vectrex - Pac-Man Vector Graphics Clone Retro Gameplay
Clean Sweep is an arcade action game similar to Pac-Man. Robbers have just blown up your bank scattering the money around the now maze-like passages. You control a vacuum cleaner trying to recollect all of the money! Wandering about the maze trying to catch you are the bank robbers. If they do manage to catch you, you will lose one of your lives. Each corner of the screen contains a room where your vacuum can become super-charged. While super-charged, you can destroy the bank robbers. You can only become super-charged four times, so use this sparingly. As you collect the money, your vacuum slowly becomes full. When your vacuum no longer has room to collect money, you will need to return to the vault in the center of the room to deposit the money before continuing on. When you have collected all of the money, you will move on to the next level. A second game variation is available where the maze walls are invisible making it more difficult to navigate.

The Vectrex, in contrast to other video game systems at the time, did not need to be hooked up to a television set; it had an integrated (vertically oriented) monochrome CRT monitor. A detachable wired control pad could be folded into the lower base of the console. Games came with translucent color overlays to place over the screen.
Byte in 1982 called Vectrex one of the greatest game machines we have seen this year ... [Vectrex] is a good bet to score big with the consumer. The magazine praised the screen, stating that it almost has to be seen to be believed; imagine playing games at home (or in the office) using vector graphics with three-dimensional rotation and zoom, and noted that It is unusual and refreshing to see a product appearing on the market with its software ready to run. David H. Ahl stated in Creative Computing Video & Arcade Games in 1983 that Vector graphics really do make a difference, and the strong line-up of games helps immensely.
