Note: The talk contains research ideas, work in progress, and preliminary results.
Abstract:
The 20-minutes of the presentation time I intend to use for two tasks:
* I shall argue that the recently suggested theory for decision making under uncertainty, the risk-weighted expected utility (Buchak 2014, 2017, 2019), does not allow to justify policy choices in the field I am interested in: policies coping with global environmental change (such as climatic change, biodiversity loss, land-use changes).
* I shall outline some ideas I am currently working on for how to justify policy relevant decisions under uncertainty: specification of process-related (instead of outcome-dependent) principles for decision-making under uncertainty.
Already now, I am looking forward to the then following 25-minutes of the discussion time.
The talk was given at the Philosophy of Science & Methodology Colloquium (University of Tübingen) organized by Prof. Dr. Alexandra Zinke and Prof. Dr. Hong Yu Wong.
