Pt 3: A DEAD Panasonic 3DO - Did my repair work?? 3DO REAL FZ-1 No Power Repair - Test & Gameplay
updated
Join me as we start a new series called "Does It Work". This is intended to be a way of showing you what potential projects we have in the pile without repairing them yet. We look at the item, see if it works! If it doesn't we look at repair options and if it DOES we look at possible upgrades and enhancement, all for a future video (well, if anyone is interested.)
In today's Episode of Does It Work, we are looking at a semi-boxed Amstrad GX4000 console as donated by Mike Dailly of Lemmings and GTA fame, as well as a MELTED MONSTROSITY from my house fire.
We'll find out DOES IT WORK together!

In this video we take a c64 game from my childhood and make it into an instantly loading cartridge.
This game was never released in cartridge format so this board, created by C64iStanbul, uses the original PRG file, converted to a Magic Desk image using the great work of Marko ล olajiฤ.
You can order a board here with a portion going to the board designer: pcbway.com/project/shareproject/C64_Samurai_Warrior__The_Battles_of_Usagi_Yojimbo_Game_Cartridge_PCB.html
You can learn about Marko ล olajiฤโs Magic Desk Project here: github.com/msolajic/c64-magic-desk-512k
You can find Retro Rewind's Dip Chip Straightenerererer here: retrorewind.ca/dip-chip-straightener - They also have a really good range of other stuff!

I took a quick break from setting up my repair area to think back on some of my most horrible retrogaming memories. Do you have any like these?
This month saw us reach one year after the fire and we have come so far I can't believe it. This time last year I was convinced I wouldn't be able to continue but now I am on the verge of releasing a rake of new content, as well as regular streaming and it's all due to my subscrobers and my AMAZING patron's support.

Nine months ago BlackView kindly sent the BV8800 Rugged phone to MFS, and we've been trying to destroy it for AGES! I used it during the reconstruction work on the house and it survived well. Then I passed it over to Lala - The MOST DESTRUCTIVE PERSON I KNOW!!!
Big thanks to Lala and David for the violent handset treatment. Massive thanks to Sharon Yang at BlackView for the opportunity to do this video (and her patience!)
Here are the product links should you be interested.
For UK customers: amzn.to/3C7qNT8
For USA customers: https://amz.run/60NI
(Prices have likely risen a bit due to global markets since I got the handset.)
//Feedback on the video format really welcome. I'm looking to have guests in some future restro restoration content so I'm practicing!//

In this video we take a look at a rare Tatung Einstein TC-01, a computer from 1983 that was popular with games developers. Made in Bradford in the United Kingdom, this 1980's home computer retailed for an astonishing ยฃ499 and as a result, never penetrated the home computer user market.
This machine was hunted down by my friend and patron Simon Green!

In this video we take a look at an American Panasonic FZ-1 3DO which has had the cable removed, and investigate what is wrong with it. Along the way we also covert the Panasonic 3DO's power supply so it can be used directly with UK power, use our 3D printer to make and replace missing elements such as a missing expansion flap.
This console was kindly donated by @Mike Dailly - Creator of Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto and a supportive patron of the channel!

In this video we are further modding the Sega Saturn, that was donated to us by Mike Dailly (the Creator of Lemmings) so that when we use the Fenrir ODE, we can also switch regions, or more importantly video standards.
Our PAL standard Sega Saturn should then run faster and full screen with game images from the USA and JPN regions. The video covers the full install, testing and comparisons, and we also have time to clean up the console a bit along the way. SOAPY!

In this video we take a tatty, non-working Sega Saturn that was donated by Mike Dailly - the creator of Lemmings. We see what the problem is with the console, and then look to install a Fenrir ODE (Optical Drive Emulator) so we can load Saturn games from SD card.
We do the full Fenrir install, update the Fenrir Firmware and test some USA,
European and Japanese games to see if the automatiic region switching works.
This musty, dusty console suprised me a LOT! Big thanks to @RMC - The Cave for the television set and Mike Dailey for the console.

I bought the Fenrir directly from https://www.fenrir-ode.fr/ - there are 20 and 21 pin versions, but a serial checker on the page will find the version you need.
The Fenrir Mount is free here - thingiverse.com/thing:4642088 - Thanks to Moriartym for the great model!
It's true, unvarnished and... a bit of a disaster. Not the fault of the printer, but rather my noobish approach...
A BIG THANKS to Kori from Elegoo, who sent this bundle before my home burned down and was so patient with this video taking so long.

I recently bought a very cheap lot of Atari VCS 2600 cartridges on eBay. They were in a horrible condition and it started me wondering if I could "recreate" the labels digitally and print them out at home on my photoprinter. I wanted them to be self adhesive but also smudge resistant.
What do you think of the results? Would you have done anything differently?

We do a full build of the project from PCBWay, including EPROM programming with my Minipro. We discover that the EPROMs I was sold by AliExpress are fake chips, having been skimmed and remarked by the seller, so we find a way around that issue. Finally we perform a Speed Test between an SD2IEC with and without the Epyx Fastload cartridge and see if it makes a difference!
