It's RC Nerds vs. Gym Rats in this episode! I used some old RC parts to piece together a small but very powerful personal fan that clamps to cardio exercise equipment like treadmills and elliptical machines. It gives a very concentrated blast of fresh air right to my face. I have the genetic curse of "face sweating" so it is quite a blessing not to have to mop off my face with a nasty towel every 30 seconds.
I know the first thing most guys will say is "safety". No, this is not completely safe but it's a work in progress. I encourage you to make a better one and show us how!
EDF? Sure, but noisy and inefficient. Store-bought fans? Wimpy airflow and diffuse pattern. A brushless RC motor and prop gives 2 hours full-blast wind right where it counts.
As seen on TV, not available in stores, of course it needs a stupid name! The "eTowel"! This is a one-off, please don't think I have any intention of marketing this.
It's a 40g 2200KV motor, 5x3 prop, 10amp ESC, servo tester for speed control, 2200mAh 3-cell LiPo, and a squeeze clamp, assembled with zip ties and 2-sided foam tape. At regular speed it runs at about .8 amps, so the battery pack lasts two trips to the gym, one hour each.
This video is mostly just for laughs, but the actual fan does bring me a lot of relief.
