Nikko Waraku Odori 日光和楽踊: Japanese Folk Dance longzijun 2025-01-26 | Nikko Waraku Odori (日光和楽踊) is an annual folk dance festival held in the town of Kiyotaki in Yochigi prefecture, which is in the Nikko region of Japan. It commemorates the visit of the Emperor and Empress to the Nikko Copper Refinery (now the Furukawa Electric Company) in 1913.Anyone can participate, so the dancers include groups that have practiced for the event, children who are just learning the steps, as well as locals and tourists who just want to try. I shot the video and photos at an exhibition, entitled 'Hope' that was held at Tai Kwun In Hong Kong.Piccinini's work often features strange looking creatures that look vulnerable and that are or are being cared for (or are caring for others). The exhibition, entitled 'Hope' was held at Tai Kwun In Hong KongPatricia Piccinini is an Australian artist who is best known for her hyperrealist sculptures of weird and grotesque creatures. The creatures are often presented in scenarios that suggest feelings of tenderness and love. inviting viewers to think about things like:What exactly is a human and what makes us human? What makes someone (or something) deserving of love? Why do people and animals and 'creatures' look the way they do? How does environment shape appearance? Will scientific developments in genetics be used to create new transgenic species (The word 'transgenic' refers to an organism that that contains genetic material into which DNA from an unrelated organism has been artificially introduced)? teamLabs Continuous: light & sound show in Hong Kong longzijun 2024-10-15 | I visited teamLab's multimedia installation in Tamar Park in Hong Kong, For more information and photos, check out my blog post on the artwork: artjouer.wordpress.com/2024/09/17/teamlab-continuous The installation called 'Continuous' had two parts: Resonating Life which Continues to Stand, (which featured scores of large glowing egg-shaped objects in the park, with some floating just offshore in Victoria Harbour) and Resonating Trees (which featured trees illuminated with LED lights).The ovoids and the trees change color due to the presence of people, the presence of wind and waves and also the changing colors of the ovoids and trees around them. This installation by Japanese art collective teamLab emphasizes the inter-connectedness of everything—the land and the sea, people and the environment around them, technology and nature, artwork and audience, sound and light, light and darkness and individual people with one another.The glowing ovoids in this installation are large and soft and can be pushed over, but they will spring back up (i.e., the 'continue to stand' in the installation's title). Thus, another one of the themes of the installation is the resilience of life.The installation was organized by the Leisure and Culture Services Department (LCSD) as part of its Art@Victoria Harbour event.I also have a video introducing teamLab Planets in Tokyo: youtube.com/watch?v=G6EtM1r0EkoI shot this footage in May 2024 using a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, a Fujifilm X100T and a Fujifilm X-T5. The DJI camera was good at moving shots (e.g., shooting while walking or doing pans and tilts) and did a great job with limited light. I did the long-exposure-shots at the end of the video using the X-T5 on a tripod with the shutter speed set to 2.5 seconds.

Gentle Piano Song (Somewhere Deep in the Sea by Jessica Yip) + AI video with a Gumiho theme longzijun 2024-10-08 | Shapeshifter is my second video showcasing my experiments with creating AI video in different styles (using Kaiber AI). This video is on the theme of fox spirits (called ‘Huli Jing’ in Chinese and ‘Gumiho’ in Korean). After creating the original AI-generated videos in Kaiber, I used Premiere Pro to edit them (e.g., changing the speed, reversing some clips, smoothing out the AI animation, doing some color matching between different clips, etc. ) The gentle piano song is by Jessica Yip and is the 38th song in my free background music series. We recorded it a few years ago, and it can be used for free in your videos for non-commercial projects (as well as in monetized YouTube videos) as long as you credit the artist. It was a trial and error kind of experiment. I learned that I should take the photos at shorter time intervals, set the focus manually (so the camera doesn't have to auto-focus before each shutter release) and bring more clothing if I am going to sit by the seaside for such a long time! I quite like the dancing barges towards the end. I will definitely do a longer harbor scene in the future. I had thought about whether I should correct the exposure in the opening sunset part so that the non-sun part of the photo wouldn't be so dark, but I was curious about what would happen once the sun actually set (the sea and sky became much lighter, which was kind of interesting). This short instrumental theme (created entirely on the Korg M50 synthesizer) is part of of a series of free background music themes that are suitable for intros, outros, credit sequences and short videos.
