The pieced four patch border around the center medallion of Essex involves four patch blocks which Jenny demonstrated in Lesson 1, diamond in a square blocks which Jenny demonstrated in Lesson 4, and setting triangles. Jenny demonstrates how to cut the setting triangle patches and how to assemble the entire border. She shows a smaller section with three of the four patch units which includes all of the techniques needed, though the borders on the full quilt involve five of the four patch units, the three center four patch units being sewn in the same manner as the one center four patch unit Jenny shows.
