• Description:
Controlling WiFi-connected projects is easy from our local network. Doing so remotely (across the world-wide web) requires additional effort. Although turnkey 3rd-party services exist (e.g., Thingspeak, myDevices Cayenne, Blynk, Particle, Adafruit.io), it's often necessary to develop our own.
In this video, I show you how to run a web application written in Python on a cloud server (Heroku). The web application serves a webpage to collect color data from a user, and sends it to multiple clients using websockets. I use an ESP8266 microcontroller to run a websocket client, to fetch the data and use to control the color of a WS2812B RGB LED (aka NeoPixel).
