This September, we invite you on an extraordinary journey to the heart of Switzerland’s esoteric legacy — a once-in-a-lifetime exploration of the birth of the Western counterculture at the legendary Monte Verità, the Mountain of Truth.
Our adventure begins at the serene Eranos, the famed lakeside retreat on Lago Maggiore in Italian-speaking Switzerland. From there, we continue to nearby Monte Verità, the mystical hilltop that became a magnet for spiritual visionaries and cultural pioneers at the dawn of the 20th century.
It was here, in the first decades of the 1900s, that a bold community of artists, thinkers, and seekers broke free from what sociologist Max Weber called the "Iron Cage" of materialism and nationalism that was leading Europe toward catastrophe. At Monte Verità, luminaries like Hermann Hesse, Isadora Duncan, and Rudolf Laban gathered to embrace a new way of being: a return to nature, vegetarianism, free love, expressive dance, and a fusion of Eastern and Western esoteric wisdom.
They envisioned a different world — a true utopia where the soul could breathe, creativity could flourish, and community could be re-imagined beyond bourgeois constraints. This living laboratory of Lebensreform (life reform) offered a radical alternative to mainstream culture, sparking the first flames of the modern counterculture.
