Marking its second consecutive year of profitability, state-owned utility Eskom has recorded a R30.3 billion profit for the 2026 financial year, more than doubling the R14 billion profit achieved in 2025.
Eskom announced its group annual results yesterday for the period ending 31 March 2026.
The utility's leadership says the financial turnaround was driven by its efficient costs of producing electricity, underpinned by improved generating plant availability, cost discipline and lower reliance on emergency diesel generation.
To unpack what this means for South Africa's energy security, we are joined by Eskom Group Chief Financial Officer, Calib Cassim.
