Presented on this shelf and the lower shelf are contents of the Type
C-1 Escape Vest. Developed in WWII for the Army Air Force, the C-1 vest also saw service in Korea and Vietnam. The C1 was to be worn over the uniform and flight jacket but under the Mae West, body armor and parachute. In reality a modified musette bag was attached to the parachute to contain the C-1 and it was not actually worn in flight.
