On 25 March, the first two satellites of the Celeste LEO-PNT in-orbit demonstration mission will lift off aboard Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket from the company’s Māhia Launch Complex in New Zealand.
Celeste will play a pioneering role in elevating the future of Europe’s satellite navigation capabilities. As Europe’s first initiative for satellite navigation in low Earth orbit (LEO), the mission will be testing next-generation technologies and add new frequency bands for satellite navigation.
Celeste will demonstrate how a complementary layer flying closer to Earth can enhance Europe’s current Galileo system in medium Earth orbit (MEO), boosting the overall resilience, enhancing its performance and opening opportunities for new service capabilities directly from LEO.

![Smoke detector maintenance in space 💨
Our astronaut Sophie Adenot shared this video on her social media channels with the caption:
[EN] Day 173 orbit 2680 — Fire is one of the biggest risks we face aboard the International Space Station, so as you can imagine, smoke detector maintenance is performed regularly to keep the crew safe.
In this (accelerated) video, I was servicing the Columbus smoke detector, making sure it remains in perfect condition. At home, remember to check your smoke alarm batteries regularly. In an emergency, on Earth just as much as in space, an early warning can save lives and protect property!
[FR] Jour 173, orbite 2680 – Le feu est l’un des plus grands risques à bord de la Station spatiale internationale. Comme vous pouvez l’imaginer, nous effectuons régulièrement, pour notre propre sécurité, la maintenance des détecteurs de fumée.
Dans cette vidéo (accélérée!) j’étais en train d’effectuer la maintenance du détecteur de fumée du module Columbus, pour qu’il reste en parfait état de fonctionnement. Chez vous, pensez à vérifier régulièrement les piles de vos détecteurs de fumée. En cas d’urgence, sur Terre comme dans l’espace, être alerté de façon précoce peut sauver des vies et protéger les biens !
