Erin Ward, MD, a surgical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, often treats cancers using an innovative method called heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). HIPEC is a form of heated chemotherapy combined with surgery that is often used to treat appendix tumors or colorectal cancer. Dr. Ward was drawn to surgical oncology out of the desire to have a concrete impact on patients, and aspires to help all of her patients live long and healthy lives. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Ward is collaborating with the Wellness Center to research new ways to optimize people’s psychosocial health after surgery.
