CutiePie | Erin Go Bragh - A Row In The Town | IRISH TIN WHISTLE TABS TUTORIAL @CutiepieTinWhistle | Uploaded March 2024 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Today's gorgeous tune is a bit of a mystery. It goes by many names, has a selection of different lyrics and is kind of difficult to assign to an original composer/writer.
It's most popular title (and lyrics) are the Irish version called 'A Row in the Town' - a rebel song written by Peadar Kearney, that speaks of the 1916 easter rebellion by Irish republicans against British rule in Ireland. It was made popular by Irish rebel music band The Wolfe Tones.
There seems to be an earlier Scottish version called 'Erin go Bragh' which recounts a tale of a Scotsman being mistaken for an Irishman during a run-in with a policeman, and lyrics to a version called 'Duncan Campbell' have a similar thread.
The music throughout all of these versions remains the same. So although I'm unsure of the origin of the original melody, if you're playing on tin whistle, you can choose the story you like the most behind this one to tell your audience :)
