I actually had a lot of free time during the Summer, but (with reluctance) chose to spend it on something else than arranging music. In the back of my head, I was still thinking about which songs I wanted to arrange and which ones I wanted to try and play. One that stood out a bit were Satie's works, due to their time signature. Erik Satie's free time signature is quite absurd, even in today's time of musical experimentation. It's something I had never tried before. In true spirit of raven's jig playing whatever they please, we tried playing one of the Gnossiennes.
When listening to Gnossienne no. 1, I see a very dark disturbed setting. A dark well-kept home's central hallway with a large grandfather clock dominating the scene. The scent of family long gone, as it is past bedtime. A black cat sneaking quietly across the hallway, on his way to the front door, where cold autumn air leaks in from the small cracks and crevices. The clock's hands are halfway in between 11 and midnight, yet no one in the vicinity is interested nor capable of reading the time. Was that section of wallpaper always slightly bubbly?
On-vocal version likely coming at some point. The mental image I have is way too strong to ignore.
