Black Female Rap als Brücke der Solidarität mit der ukrainischen Stadt Charkiw: Das äthiopisch-ukrainische Hip-Hop-Trio FO SHO gibt zur Eröffnung von »Sense of Safety«, einem internationalen Ausstellungsprojekt mit dem YermilovCentre in Charkiw, ein exklusives Konzert im ZKM | Karlsruhe. Kuratiert von antiwarcoalition.art und live übertragen in die umkämpfte ukrainische Metropole und Heimatstadt von FO SHO, die nur 40 Kilometer von der russischen Grenze entfernt liegt.
FO SHO wurde 2019 von den Geschwistern Bethlehem (oder Betty), Miriam und Siona Endale gegründet und steht für eine Symbiose moderner Genres von Trap bis Hip-Hop, R'n'B bis Rock. Als Kinder jüdischer Migrant:innen aus Äthiopien wuchsen die Schwestern in Charkiw in der nordöstlichen Ukraine auf. Da sie überall das Gefühl hatten, fremd zu sein, nehmen sie ihren einzigartigen kulturellen Hintergrund, ihre Geschichte und ihre kulturellen Traditionen in ihren Liedern, ihrem Stil und vor allem in ihren energiegeladenen, lebendigen Performances auf. Im Jahr 2022, nach dem Ausbruch der umfassenden russischen Invasion, mussten sie ihre belagerte Heimatstadt verlassen und leben seither in der Nähe von Stuttgart, wo sie zusammen mit anderen Musiker:innen aus der Region für Musik als Mittel der Rebellion und des Aufbruchs stehen.
Zusammen mit der Eröffnung des Ausstellungsprojekts »Sense of Safety« wird das Konzert live aus dem Medientheater des ZKM in das YermilovCentre in Charkiw übertragen, wo die gleichnamige Kernausstellung stattfindet. Die Brücke der Solidarität zwischen den Städten Karlsruhe und Charkiw und ihren jeweiligen Communities soll den Menschen in der täglich beschossenen Stadt zeigen, dass sie trotz der schrecklichen Umstände des Krieges weder vergessen noch allein sind.

Black female rap as a bridge of solidarity with the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv: the Ethiopian-Ukrainian hip-hop trio FO SHO will give an exclusive concert at ZKM | Karlsruhe to mark the opening of »Sense of Safety«, an international exhibition project with the YermilovCentre in Kharkiv. Curated by antiwarcoalition.art and broadcasted live to the embattled Ukrainian metropolis and hometown of FO SHO, which is located only 40 kilometers from the Russian border.
Founded in 2019 by the siblings Bethlehem (or Betty), Miriam, and Siona Endale, FO SHO stands for a symbiosis of modern genres from trap to hip-hop, R'n'b to rock. As the children of Jewish migrants from Ethiopia, the sisters grew up in Kharkiv in north-eastern Ukraine. Exposed to the feeling of being strangers everywhere, they embrace their unique cultural background, history and cultural traditions in their songs, style and, most importantly, in their energetic, lively performances. In 2022, after the outbreak of the full-scale Russian invasion, they had to leave their besieged hometown and have been living near Stuttgart ever since, where they, along with other musicians from the region, stand for music as a means of rebellion and awakening.
Together with the opening of the »Sense of Safety« exhibition project, the concert will be broadcast live from the Media Theater at ZKM to the YermilovCentre in Kharkiv, where the core exhibition of the same name is taking place. This will create a bridge of solidarity between the cities of Karlsruhe and Kharkiv and their respective communities, showing the people in the daily shelled city, that despite the horrible circumstances of the war they are neither forgotten nor alone.
