The Eradii-class frigate, operated by the Algerian Navy, is a versatile, multi-role frigate designed primarily for anti-surface and anti-air warfare, with limited anti-submarine capabilities. Based on the MEKO A-200AN design by the German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), these frigates feature modular construction for ease of upgrades and maintenance. With a displacement of approximately 3,400 tons, they measure around 121 meters in length and have a range exceeding 7,000 nautical miles, allowing for extended deployments.
The frigate is powered by a combined diesel and gas (CODAG) propulsion system, delivering speeds of over 27 knots. It’s equipped with a 76mm OTO Melara main gun, anti-air missiles like the VL MICA, Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles, and torpedoes for anti-submarine warfare. The vessel also houses advanced radar, sonar, and electronic warfare systems for tracking and neutralizing multiple threat types. Its flight deck and hangar can accommodate a medium-sized helicopter, enhancing its maritime patrol and search and rescue capabilities.
