Too often, resilience is framed in the context of vulnerability to “natural” disasters and hazards. Rarely is it connected to root causes of unsustainable urban development. In her presentation, Isabelle Anguelovski (Director, Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability), argues that climate adaptation interventions are always intertwined with considerations of equity. From the political tensions in early Post-Katrina planning to inclusive “superblocks” in Barcelona, Professor Anguelovski explores the intersections of urban design, green infrastructure, and political leadership in the shaping and implementation of transformative adaptation.
