What a week its been for LGBT Americans First The Illinois General Assembly passed a bill legalizing same sex marriage Tuesday, putting the Land of Lincoln on course to be the 15th state to legalize same sex marriage. The House of Representatives narrowly passed the bill 61-54-2 shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday and the state senate concurred a little more than an hour later voting 32-29 in favor of SB10. Gov. Pat Quinn has previously said he would sign the bill into law.
After five days of public testimony in a joint House Judiciary & Finance Committee hearing, the 30-member panel voted Tuesday to pass Hawaii's marriage equality legislation. The bill will now go to the full House for a vote.
The Senate passed a bill Thursday that aims to prevent discrimination against gay and transgender employees, though that only sends the measure to the House where Republican leaders have said the bill is not going anywhere.
