I finally got a simple and effective mocap setup working using a vive headset, 2 wands and 3 trackers. The motion is captured by a Glycon and then exported to a BVH. This animation is then imported to blender and retargeted using Auto-Rig Pro. It's a pretty quick process and is going to save me a lot of time animating, even if there is minor cleanup necessary.

This is the first non-game related demake I've tried. An odd fit, but I enjoyed trying something more cinematic for a change. Mostly hand animated, but used a Vive + Glycon again for a couple of mocap shots. Really speeds up the process. This time i've also added some PS1-style dithering too.
Lightyear is a 2022 American computer-animated epic science fiction action-adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is a spin-off of the Toy Story film series, serving as an origin story for the fictional test pilot/astronaut character who the Buzz Lightyear toy/action figure featured in the main films was inspired by.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) is an action-adventure video game based on the 2001 film of the same name. Philosopher's Stone was initially released for the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation in November 2001. A different game bearing the same name was made two years later for the GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in December 2003. The versions on different platforms differ greatly from each other and do not follow the same level structures or gameplay, with somewhat varying stories as well.
The story follows protagonist Harry Potter, who, after discovering he is a wizard, is sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he makes friends and receives magical training, and along with his friends stop Lord Voldemort from returning to power. The game received mixed reviews. Critics commented on the game's accessible gameplay and its unimpressive graphics (2003 versions) while others said the game's license would be the only thing to draw in fans. The PlayStation version sold 8 million copies by May 2003, which would become Argonaut's best-selling game and one of the best-selling PlayStation video games of all time.

I tried out a lot of new tricks for this one. It's my first character with a hair particle system. Not nearly as frightening as I thought it'd be... There's excessive use of AI roto using RunwayML - I'm super impressed by it. Can't wait to see how it improves. Mario's base head movements are motion captured using a VR headset. There's additional clean up on top of the mocap, but this still cut down on animation time. Some close up shots of me towards the end are 100% in camera! These were shot in front of an LED TV with my blender scene streaming behind me. After matching the lighting - it worked shockingly well and saved a lot of VFX time.

Morshu's body is a heavily modified Wario torso ripped from Smash Ultimate. Really saved some time getting the proportions right! The rest of Morshu is modelled by hand and animated in blender. He's textured in substance painter and rendered in EEVEE.
Morshu's shop is thrown together using assets from sketchfab, 3d model haven, models-resource and some original models.
It's not really RTX, as I used EEVEE. BIG fraud! However - the results I got from EEVEE were very comparable to a Cycles render and a fraction of the render time! The coolest part is that at lower detail - the whole scene runs in real-time on a GTX 1060 mama mia!

The video is made in blender and rendered using EEVEE. It’s been a great learning project to get to grips with real-time rendering and optimizing my 3D workflow. The final renders aren’t real-time due to high model geometry and volumetrics. Still very fast compared to a path tracer though.
There's roughly a 50-50 split between hand animation and motion capture from mixamo. This saved so much time and allowed me to focus on animating the facial expressions + dialogue.
Character materials are made from scratch in substance painter. The environments are mainly PBR image textures and extruded stills.

My first crack at a deepfake face replacement. Potentially the first video game character deepfaked onto a real person!
The AI ran for around 160k iterations on a GTX 1060 - roughly 70 hours total.
I modelled, textured and rigged G-Man from scratch. His head was animated to move in as many positions as possible while pulling countless facial expressions. This was rendered in blender and fed into Deepfacelab as the source file. The destination is my own performance of G-Man's opening speech from Half-Life 2.

I tried to demonstrate how the atmosphere, combat and puzzle-solving of Silent Hill would translate to VR.
This all runs almost at real-time in blender, but nothing's playable. A lot of assets are ripped straight from Silent Hill 2 to save production time. It's incredible how well some of these hold up nearly 20 years later.

Portal is a 2007 puzzle-platform game developed and published by Valve. It was released in a bundle, The Orange Box, for Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and has been since ported to other systems, including Mac OS X, Linux, and Android (via Nvidia Shield).
Portal consists primarily of a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using "the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device", a device that can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. The player-character, Chell, is challenged and taunted by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) to complete each puzzle in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center using the portal gun with the promise of receiving cake when all the puzzles are completed. The game's unique physics allows kinetic energy to be retained through portals, requiring creative use of portals to maneuver through the test chambers. This gameplay element is based on a similar concept from the game Narbacular Drop; many of the team members from the DigiPen Institute of Technology who worked on Narbacular Drop were hired by Valve for the creation of Portal, making it a spiritual successor to the game.
