We introduce Corey Ostler, a Latter-day Saint who has explored his faith deeply. We ask whether and why religion is necessary, even when you grant that the truth claims of that religion may not, in fact, be true. Is there a reason we cannot view scripture as fiction? How do we determine what is true and what is not? With our senses? With replicable experiments? Ultimately, aren't all sources of truth circular?
