Bananarama are a British female pop group formed in 1981, originally consisting of Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward, and Siobhan Fahey. They became one of the most successful girl groups of the 1980s, scoring hits like Cruel Summer and Venus.

Bronski Beat were a British synth-pop trio formed in 1983, best known for their politically charged lyrics addressing LGBTQ+ issues and social justice. Fronted by Jimmy Somerville, they gained international fame with the 1984 hit song Smalltown Boy and became one of the most recognizable electronic pop acts of the mid-1980s.
