My first original piece in a year. As I've fallen into severe depression over the last few months I have struggled to maintain my creativity, and sanity. This is both a reflection of my own feelings as well as an accompaniment to a science fiction story I've been writing for a long time. It's about a young girl who grows up alone on a ship drifting through space, en route to establish a new home for humanity. Unable to accept her role as a caretaker whose destiny is to live and die on this empty vessel, she begins to alter her own body to prolong her life, so that she may one day see a real world and be among others. But in her isolation she begins to lose herself, her humanity, and the dreams she once had as she lets go of her life and transforms into something else entirely... a monster.
