NOTE: This is the 4th version of the ride, and showcases the vocal talents of Dame Judy Dench as the narrator.
The original narration for the October 1982 opening was performed by the prolific film, television and radio actor Lawrence Dobkin. Mr. Dobkin was also the narrator for The Hall of Presidents in Disney's Magic Kingdom from 1971 to 1993.
In May 1986, the ride was updated and Mr. Dobkin's narration was replaced with new narration by the legendary CBS Evening News broadcaster Walter Cronkite, which remained unchanged until August 1994.
At that time, the show underwent another renovation, which included the addition of the "Home Computer", "Office Computer", "Network Operations Center", and "Space Station" scenes. During this renovation, the narration was changed and re-recorded by English actor Jeremy Irons (shortly after performing the role of Scar in Disney's "The Lion King" animated film).
In July 2007 the ride goes through another update. During this renovation, the narration was altered and re-recorded by English actress Dame Judy Dench. The newest iteration of Spaceship Earth opened February 15, 2008 and is still the currently running version (as of the end of 2017).
