This is clipped from a video of the Agency’s celebration of its 20th anniversary. I can't locate information on the EPA Region 7 Singers, but EPA's Region 7 (Kansas, Missouri. Iowa and Nebraska ) mascot Charlie the Chipmunk entertains and educates children about the benefits of recycling to help clean neighborhoods, as well as the dangers of lead-based paints to young children. Charlie Chipmunk and his friends make visits to school rooms and assemblies; march in street and park parades; appear at health fairs and have a huge part in making Earth Day an annual success. Charlie tells his stories through booklets and has a rap song. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created on December 2, 1970, with Congress's unanimous confirmation of William D. Ruckelshaus as its first Administrator. EPA's genesis was an executive order by then President Nixon combining into one new agency 15 programs from five agencies involving 5,800 employees and a $1.4 billion budget. In 1990, at 20 years, EPA employed 17,000 people and had a budget of $6 billion. EPA has become an integral part of the fabric of American life.
