In this episode Dr. Abou El Fadl tells stories of those who sacrificed for the message of liberation and empowerment in order for Islam to take root in Mecca. Through these illustrations, we learn why the Meccan elite felt compelled to move from ostracism to outright violence against Islam and the Prophet and we learn that sacrifices for the moral cause earned the marginalized in society to move towards the center of importance in a new civilization. Do we honor our heroes? How do we define them? Are we anchored in the essential moral message of the Prophet?
